Solution Architecture Manager

Reporting to the Chief Architect you’ll be responsible for managing a team of E2E Solution Architects and Designers, providing design leadership and specialist IT Design Governance expertise and guidance. You’ll be accountable for ensuring the solutions delivered by their team are of a consistently high quality and:
1. Deliver against a clear and stable set of requirements
2. Move the IT Architecture forwards
3. Are operationally fit

Main Responsibilities:
• Provide expert advice and guidance to Solution Architect’s and all other parts of the organisation.
• Provide quality assurance for key deliverables, i.e. High level design and any other Solution Architectures agreed deliverables
• Regularly review deliverables and seek feedback from key stakeholders to meet business needs
• Take ownership of any architecture related issues and manage the resolution with business stakeholders.
• Support the definition and implementation of best practice Solution architecture policies and methodologies that are tailored to the Telefonica UK environment
• Provide leadership for the Solution architecture team to identify best practice design
• Influence the Architecture and Design approach and governance (i.e. methods, techniques and tools) on complex programmes
• Build strong relationships with the wider business and develop a good understanding of their strategy and key business drivers
• Promote services of the Solution Design team within Operations and the wider business ensuring that the remit of the team is understood, when and how to engage with the team and how to support it
• Lead Solution Architecture resource management activities and support the management of supply and demand and the allocation of solutions architecture resource based on agreed priorities across the roadmap
• Provide a consistent and seamless Solution Architecture resourcing service to the business
• Support collaboration and partnerships with Managed Service Providers to supplement permanent resource with additional Solution Architects
• Understand short, medium and long term demand for resource both within their specific portfolios and wider and plan development activities to ensure that the Solution Architect community have the appropriate skills
• Manage performance and development of the team of Solution Architects, ensuring that all team members have clear objectives aligned to business priorities and development plans to enhance their skills. Monitor and review performance regularly, providing feedback and development opportunities
• Support delivery of the Solution Design training/development plan including a clear succession plan for themselves and all team members
• Monitoring of teams Capitalisation rates to ensure that the Architecture and Design team contribution to IT CAPEX targets are always met

Everything Else
• Incorporate feedback into functional performance improvement plans
• Develop a culture of continuous improvement where the team is committed to finding ways of improving the service that it provides to the business
• Support the implementation of better ways of working
• Ensure that SAs have the appropriate tools to support any changes to business practices
• Ensuring that all team and individual commitments are delivered to time, cost and quality
• Knowledge of industry trends, research and developments relating to the Architecture and Solution Design profession; particularly within the Telecoms sector
• Develop in-depth understanding of Telefonica UK’s business operations
• Build and maintain relationships providing the business with the needed design services
• Ensure the most effective allocation of both permanent and contract Solution Architecture resource
• Lead Solution Architect recruitment activities, induction, on-boarding and leavers process
• Lead the development of Solution Architects to ensure that as a function it is highly skilled, cost effective and has a customer focussed capability
• Direct line management of Solution Designers
• Coaching, mentoring and performance management of Solution Designers

Skills and Experience:
• Togaf CERTIFIED
• Experience in multiple IT disciplines.
• Telecommunications or media industry experience.
• Able to rapidly absorb new techniques and apply them effectively

Location: Slough or Leeds.
