VoLTE to Be Deployed as Mainstream in Many Operator Networks

Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is a technology that enables High Definition (HD) voice call quality among other quality of service benefits for operators and their customers. 5G Americas announced the publication of a technical white paper, The Evolution of 3GPP Communications Services, which offers a clear understanding of the evolution and ecosystem for VoLTE, as well as Video over LTE (ViLTE) and Rich Communication Services (RCS) technology.

"3GPP Communications Services such as VoLTE, ViLTE, HD Voice and RCS are gaining momentum throughout the world as operators continue to invest heavily in their networks to provide excellent services to their customers," commented Chris Pearson, President of 5G Americas.

Voice over LTE (VoLTE) provides high quality voice service by typically offering lower latency and higher capacity compared to competing VoIP services which utilize best-effort bearers that can adversely affect their service quality. First launched in 2012, VoLTE has made progress through the years and is now being rapidly deployed in many parts of the world. Operators in North America are among the early adopters of VoLTE. Video over LTE (ViLTE) is a complementary conversational video service that is also recently being adopted by many operators around the globe. The expectation is that in a few years, both VoLTE and ViLTE will form the backbone of IP-based telecommunications just as voice was an integral part of 2G and 3G networks. When VoLTE, including video, is introduced, it provides Quality of Service (QoS) and regulatory-required services such as E-911.

Operators deploying VoLTE will also tend to deploy Rich Communications Services messaging as one step in their migration to an all-IP network as an evolution to legacy SMS and MMS messaging. Similar to VoLTE, RCS messaging takes advantage of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) control capabilities, encompassing a rich multimedia service portfolio, including multimedia messaging, chat, file transfer, privacy, buddy lists and presence.

RCS introduces an important all-IP communication evolution enabler in capability discovery. The end user will always be aware of who in their contact book is able to communicate using new services. Furthermore, RCS messaging natively integrated into Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) devices and chipsets offers a seamless out-of-box experience to the end-user.

Overall, the white paper highlights how 3GPP Communications Services continue to be enhanced and are gaining traction as IMS infrastructure in operator networks is being fortified and enhanced to provide real-time IP services such as voice and video. 3GPP Communications services such as VoLTE, ViLTE and RCS messaging will continue to make progress providing new and enhanced features, applications and services for years to come.

Vodafone Czech Republic launched VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling with Ericsson

Vodafone Czech Republic has chosen Ericsson as supplier for a full scale upgrade of the operator's core network and has launched VoLTE and Wi Fi calling.

Ericsson has implemented a full suite of products and services which will enable Vodafone to offer high-definition (HD) voice and simultaneous surfing over LTE networks, as well as richer communication services experiences, such as video calling over LTE.

Wi-Fi calling is a very important part of the delivered solution being ready for usage on smartphones with native support for this functionality, which means that the users just makes a regular phone call via the phone's dialer. For users with smartphones that do not support native Wi-Fi calling, a special Vodafone app can instead be downloaded and configured by the user to make calls over Wi-Fi.

Petr Dvork, Vice President for end customers at Vodafone says: "Vodafone will be the first operator in the Czech Republic to offer on a massive scale such calling services going beyond cellular coverage calls. Thanks to the freely available Wi-Fi calling application, Vodafone customers can take advantage of this modern service on any phones running Android 4.0 or later, so therefore, on all Android phones which Vodafone has on offer. Wi-Fi calling allows you to connect to any phone number in the same way as you do when placing regular calls from your mobile phone."

With Wi-Fi calling, consumers can use their smartphones for operator communication services while using Wi-Fi access and their existing mobile phone number. This is beneficial to users that suffer from poor cellular coverage, such as in basements and ferroconcrete buildings. The devices connect via the home Wi-Fi access point and connect automatically to the operator-provided voice service. Users can also make operator voice calls at Wi-Fi hotspots across the world.

Today there are approximately 15 million mobile subscriptions and over 1.2 million fixed phones in the Czech Republic. The first LTE network went live in 2013 and the LTE is available to 97 % of the population.

The Mizoram government has announced in an official statement its decision to introduce two-wheeler taxi service in the capital Aizawl for the first time. The statement said that the decision was taken at the meeting of the State Transport Authority (STA) and any scooter or motorcycle, not older than two years can be used as a taxi after being issued a permit.

The statement informed that the two-wheeler must be 125 cc or above and the driver should wear a yellow helmet (headgear) with ‘Taxi’ clearly written in red colour on the front side while the registration plate should also be of yellow colour. The introduction of two-wheeler taxi was decided to ease traffic congestion in the city and facilitate the Aizawl citizens to move faster in the traffic snarl.

The STA also decided that autorickshaw service would be restricited to the outskirts of Aizawl city and they would not be allowed to enter the city proper. Public service vehicles like buses, maxicabs, taxi, autorickshaws and two-wheeler taxis would not be allowed to ply after ten years of public service but replacement would be allowed.

Para tal fin se debe realizar la configuración y evaluación en la Red de Acceso de funcionalidades disponibles en el último/actual Release de Software del Equipamiento del fabricante HUAWEI en operación en la Red del operador.. y la optimización de éstas funcionalidades considerando el estado actual y tendencias de la Red. Cada una de las funcionalidades deberá ser habilitada en los elementos de Red asociados con las licencias necesarias para el correcto funcionamiento, lo cual puede implicar elementos en la Red Core.



También deben ser capaces de:



identificar cambios en el BaseLine (Lista de Parámetros, Contadores, Licencias, etc) de las funcionalidades en uso respecto al Release anterior; y presentará el BaseLine actualizado para el nuevo Release de Software

responsable de proponer Nuevas Funcionalidades a habilitar durante periodos de 4 meses. La Lista de las funcionalidades identificadas estará priorizada considerando el estado actual y tendencias de la Red

identificar el Cluster de Prueba de acuerdo a los requerimientos de la funcionalidad. La funcionalidad será evaluada a través de indicadores estadísticos y Drive Test (provistos por OSC), por lo que se deberán definir los protocolos de prueba para verificar el comportamiento de la misma.

Con la finalidad de mejorar la confiabilidad del resultado, la funcionalidad se habilitará y evaluará en un Cluster mayor. Si los resultados son satisfactorios, el despliegue de la funcionalidad se realizará en toda la Red



Habilitación y Evaluación de nuevo equipamiento de hardware y/o nuevas tecnologías de acceso, el consultor deberá identificar el Cluster de Prueba de acuerdo a los requerimientos del nuevo equipamiento y/o tecnología de acceso. La evaluación será realizada a través de indicadores estadísticos y Drive Test (provistos por OSC), por lo que se deberán definir los protocolos de prueba para verificar el desempeño de la misma.



Los ingenieros trabajaran en ventanas de mantenimiento el 90% del tiempo.
