V-sat Satellite Engineer

OVERVIEW:
ARX Communication is leading Telecom Infrastructure, Tower Share and Services providing company based in Herndon, VA and Kabul, Afghanistan. Recently the Afghan Telecom and Regulatory Authority (ATRA) have awarded a license to ACG to deploy Digital Terrestrial Television (DTTV) with DVB-T2 and DVB-S standards across whole Afghanistan. ACG is required to serve 80% of Afghan population in next five years with Launching of Kabul city by end of third Quarter of 2014. The ACG management and employees are extensively working hard for the successful deployment of DTV in Afghanistan.
JOB SUMMARY – VSAT Engineer
The ideal candidate will be working at the Herndon/VA office and will be responsible for field VSAT installation and support, Customer Support & Services, Project Management, and Network Operations. Has required, working with Satellite Communication Equipments Vendors, VSAT Service Providers and Teleport Operators. Closely work with Satellite Operator & Field Engineers in Kabul/Afghanistan to bring the new Sites into the Network and interacting with the Customers, Vendors and Satellite Operators for resolution of Service related problems.
JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Coordinate, execute and provide Technical support to VSAT Installation, commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Operate and maintain the VSAT network to achieve and maintaining service stability, network performance and high availability.
• Perform RF operations tasks (antenna performance verification, polarization adjustment, power levels adjustment and space segment monitoring).
• Monitor and maintain all backbone links and network devices as deployed by Engineering Dept.
• Ensure continuous operation of servers and other network elements.
• Provide quality support for customers and respond to customer queries and complaints.
• Designs, develop, and maintain the hardware used in VSAT network, including receivers, transmitters, antennas, and the network HUB infrastructure.
• Responsible for hardware layout, component evaluation, prototype construction, and testing where applicable to improve VSAT overall performance.
• Prepares test methods and specifications; analyzes and tests VSAT hardware to verify performance characteristics and make recommendation as necessary.
• Performs link analysis and optimization, including effects of propagation medium and possible interference sources with respect of VSAT communication architecture.
• Performs VSAT system/subsystem/component trade studies and analysis support of Life Cycle Costs, reliability, availability, and maintainability analysis.
• Interfaces with VSAT satellite customers and stakeholder to provide recommendation to improve VSAT net worthiness and capability.
• Conduct/coordinate site surveys prior to new installation or relocation of existing system.
• Install and configure the fix antenna and auto tracking VSAT systems at customer's site.
• Troubleshoot failure of VSAT link and conduct schedule preventive maintenance as per customer's contract.
• Monitor link performance onboard during equipment move and relocate VSAT system, if necessary.
• Prepare and test equipments prior to installation.
• Prepare chronological report, service report and equipment listing after completion of each job.
• Be familiar with routers, multiplexer, modems, RFT and other related telecommunication equipments

• Knowledge of network and telecommunication resources, services, and applications appropriate for Satellite communications and its related network.
• Excellent problem solving and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in complex situations
• Good knowledge and understanding of Ku/C band and IP networks
• Excellent knowledge of Windows environments, software installations, and directory structures.
• Should have proficiency in MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint and official e-mailing/ computer skills.
• Should be hardworking, sincere, honest, dedicated, and self achiever.
• Good analytical and problem solving skills
• Skilled in time, priority and task management
• Interpersonal skills to interact with customers and team members
• Communication skills to interact with team members and support personnel

• IDirect experience
• Redhat/Linux training/experience is plus
• A thorough understanding of satellite communications and architecture
• The ideal candidate should have Cisco router and switch configuration exposure. (CCNA level knowledge)
• Good understanding of VSAT system maintenance, and VSAT site surveys and installation planning.
• A thorough knowledge of satellite system HUB services and network management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree, masters preferred; supplemented with minimum eight (8) years of experience with focus in VSAT Engineering and IP Networks over Satellite.

Travel within Afghanistan is required from time to time. The candidate must be flexible to travel
