Senior DBA

Nexius is currently hiring a Senior DBA in the Reston, VA area. This position is an opportunity to join Nexius’ Software Services Organization.

Responsibilities:

• Review & validate that Database parameters are setup correctly;
• Ensure that CPU clock speed, hyper threading, & memory configurations are optimal
• Ensure the storage system is optimally setup for database cluster;
• Ensure that primary and interconnect network is setup optimally
• Ensure that the Database is in a healthy state
• Data/Schema changes/additions/cleanup: loading more data, adding/dropping tables
• Workload changes: queries, concurrency pattern changes
• System configuration parameter changes
• Cluster/Hardware changes: creating new clusters, adding new nodes, storage/memory/network upgrade recommendations
• User/role management: new users, new role/privilege grants
• Set configuration parameters
• Invoke database designer to design projections and drop unused ones
• Reconfigure background system services
• Adjust table partitioning and projection segmentation
• Enforce password policy on privileged user
• Monitoring/Managing database backups, performance, SQL queries, ETL processes, storage capacity, and security
• Responding to outages, recovering databases or nodes, performing RCA and recommending changes if needed to help reduce likelihood of reoccurrence
• Modifying exist BASH/Shell/Python scripts for maintenance/ETL/backups/etc. or create new as needed

Further Skills / Qualifications:

• 6+ years of experience in DBA activities
• 4+ years of Unix/Linux experience
• Strong SQL, programming and scripting skill is a MUST.
• Additional DBMS e.g. Oracle/Neteeza
• Full understanding of Database architecture
• Deep knowledge in Database optimizations techniques such as projections, Indexing and partitioning
• Experienced with data warehousing concepts and techniques
• Experienced with handling big data (Data transfer, import/export, storage, performance and security)
• Strong experience with a wide landscape of technologies such as operating systems (Windows & Linux) and networking
• Must be able to Design and implement database administration solutions including performance monitoring and tuning, data management and capacity planning, implementing DR/failover, resource management, security, backup and recovery, etc.
• Computer science degree preferred or substantially equivalent experience
